I hope your weekend plans include bringing the kids to church. We've got lots of interesting things going on.
The preschool class is having an early Easter egg hunt.
The K-1 class will hear the story "Horton Hears a Who" and will relate the theme of inclusion to Unitarian Universalism and our church. Then they will play cooperative games.
Second graders will learn about the Unitarian sculptor Danile Chester French (who created the statue of Abraham Lincoln at the Lincoln Memorial) and will create their own sculptures with sand castle clay.
Third graders will learn about Hinduism by looking at some artifacts and reading a book, then will create their own gods and make pictures of them.
The fourth grade class will hear the story of David and Goliath and will make a game using five smooth stones.
The fifth grade class will hear about Jesus' entry into Jerusalem and the Last Supper, and will make a mural depicting a modern-day Last Supper.
Sixth graders will explore spirituality through finger labyrinths and a meditation on sacred space.
The Our Whole Lives (OWL) class and senior youth group meet at their usual locations.

Coming Up on March 25
Is it really still March? By Sunday, we should have more seasonable temperatures... it will be a great morning to be in church!
The preschool class will explore the wonder of animals in our world through a couple of stories, making animal stick puppets, and playing animal charades.
The kindergarten-first grade class will hear the Dr. Seuss story, "My Many Colored Days" and relate it to our third UU principle which calls us to accept one another. They will make color collages and do a color role play.
Second graders will learn about the Unitarian architect Frank Lloyd Wright and will build cantilevers and other structures out of Kapla blocks.
The third grade class will learn about Buddhist meditation through examining artifacts such as a prayer wheel and prayer flags, making a Buddhist "temple" and engaging in a Metta meditation.
Fourth graders will hear the story of the walls of Jericho and Samson, will talk about betrayal, and will create their own super heroes.
Fifth graders will hear the story of the raising of Lazarus and will perform it as a radio play.
The sixth grade class will consider connections--personal connections, connections with Unitarian Universalists, and spiritual connections. They will play a web game, do some drumming, and watch part of the film "Baraka".
The OWL (Our Whole Lives) class meets as usual from 10:15-11:45. Senior youth group will welcome Rev. Harold Babcock to their meeting.

Coming Up: March 18
This week, the kindergarten through third grade classes have Worship and Spirit, which happens about once a month. They spend the entire hour in worship circle-- singing, meditating, listening to a story, and of course, lighting the chalice and sharing joys and sorrows. The theme this week is "respect". Please note that they should report to their classrooms as usual for attendance and parent pickup.
The preschoolers will talk about the idea of all the people of the world being of one family and will play games from other countries.
Fourth grade will be listening to the stories of Moses leading the Israelites to the promised land and receiving the 10 Commandments from God. Activities will include using a parachute to recreate the parting of the Red Sea, and viewing part of Cecile B. De Mille's The Ten Commandments.
Fifth grade will be hearing stories of Jesus' miracles, and will shape and bake bread dough to represent their own ideas of miracles.
Sixth grade will think about the things we have, the things other people have, and the things we really need.
The Our Whole Lives (OWL) class and senior youth group meet in their usual locations.

What's Happening: March 11
This Sunday marks the start of our spring term in Young Church, where we believe in getting an early start to the season! And why not? It's been a pretty dull winter so we might as well move on. Please don't forget to set your clocks forward!
Here's what we've got planned for our classes:
Preschoolers will talk about the many different kinds of families and will make coats-of-arms and family chains to celebrate their own families.
The K-1 class will hear the Dr. Seuss story "What Was I Scared Of?" and will talk about conquering fears while acting out the story.
The second grade class will learn about Unitarian Alexander Graham Bell and will make an electromagnet.
Third graders will learn about Buddhism, hear the story of the Buddha, and make their fourth prayer bead.
The fourth grade class will hear the story of the Plagues of Egypt and the first Passover, will make unleavened bread, and play a memory game about the plagues.
Fifth graders will hear the story of Mary and Martha, reflect on how they set priorities, and play a couple of games that emphasize listening.
The Sixth Grade class will talk about achievement and will create an awards ceremony for a notable Unitarian Universalist.

Coming Up on March 4
This Sunday marks the end of our winter term. We like to spread joy and hope in Young Church, so we begin spring early! The curricula in all classes continues from winter, but we'll have a new set of teachers coming in for these last couple of months. Thank you to the good folks who gave of themselves this term... they have served our children well with their humor, authenticity, patience and generosity: Ally McNamee, Kristen Donahue, Christine Doherty, Laura Litcofsky, Catherine Williams, Elizabeth Silveira, Rebecca Brodish, Sarah Spalding, Carey Creps, Kimberly Neely, Tim Fountain, Jay Iannini, Steve Amery, and Meryl Baier. While we're at it, let's thank our intrepid Our Whole Lives (OWL) facilitators, who WILL continue to teach in the spring: Sue Johnson, Alex Gramling and Jill Schlanger; and our senior high youth group advisors: Becky Dill, Ken Okaya, Kelly McNamee, Rob Fitzgibbon, Michaela Gile, and Ed Meagher. It takes a village, folks! How blessed our children are to have these adults in their lives.
Here's what's up this Sunday:
The preschool class will consider why differences are important and will do an exercise illlustrating how they all see things differently.
The K-1 class will hear the Dr. Seuss story, "Have I Ever Told You How Lucky You Are?" and will reflect on things they are thankful for by tossing a gratitude ball and making thank you cards.
The second grade class will learn about the life of Unitarian astronomer Maria Mitchell and will make their own constellations and launch rockets made from film canisters.
Third graders will learn about Islamic prayer and make another prayer bead.
Fourth graders will hear the beginning of the story of Moses and will make a burning bush.
The fifth grade class will hear the parable of the Good Samaritan and will create a modern-day version of it.
Sixth graders will reflect on motivation--what motivates people to act in certain ways--and will make posters of outstanding UUs.
